Working Groups Launched

1. AFMW Medical Women in Health Technology (MedWiTH) Special Interest Group

  • Digital principles of practice – kicked off Medical Women in Health technology establishing contacts and designing programs and partnerships to promote medical women in the growing Health Technology sector.
  • Facilitate the skills development of our membership in optimizing use of daily communication tools.

2. Climate Health Action Group (CHAG)

  • Doctors for The Environment Australia (DEA) Memorandum of Understanding, April 2021. Successfully developed relationship and achieved a level of mutual partnership in shared goals.
  • Better Futures Australia, Health Working Group. Signed Declaration and partnered in advocacy.
  • Climate and Health Alliance, AFMW joined 2021.
  • AFMW Resolution on Climate Change Health Emergency – authored position statement which was ratified, 2020.
  • Authored AFMW submission to MWIA on Climate Change Health Emergency (2019) for ratification at International Triennial meeting in 2022.
  • AFMW presentations on Climate change.
  • AFMW and DEA joint letter to President of RACGP Dr Karen Price.
  • National Health Strategy Framework submission 18th April 2021, incorporated the gender lens and the climate health emergency statement as a focus on disease prevention, advocacy to maintain telehealth and incorporate climate impacts on health in health literacy promotion.

3. Reconciliation Action Process (RAP)

  • Actioned and coordinated the AFMW Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), AFMW Working Group established 2020.
  • Reconciliation Australia AFMW submission 2021, for ongoing 3 yearly review.
  • Uluru Statement from the Heart, AFMW 2021.
  • Engagement Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA).
  • RAP Bursary, program established and launched 2021: 3 inaugural bursaries awarded to Indigenous medical students/women with sponsorship of bursary program secured for 5 years.

4. AFMW Technology and Communications, working group established

  • Overseeing website review and maintenance.
  • Established the successful weekly E-Bulletin for communication and engagement.
  • Open Forums: regular interactive webinars open to members and non-members of AFMW.
  • Social media policy and governance.

5. United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW)

  • Coordinated and hosted the 1st ever AFMW Parallel session at the (UN CSW65) 20th March 2021.
  • COVID-19 Changed Everything – Women Doctors as Gender Equity Advocates.
  • Invited 16 doctors in training and med.student AFMW members to present AFMW Parallel session.
  • Established platform, planning and program templates for ongoing AFMW CSW participation.
